Creating a Project Plan is no Simple Task

In creating a project plan, many factors should be known by the project manager. The first one is this is a time consuming task. The larger the project is the more complex the plan will become. This is a necessary fact so all of the essential details can be included in the plan.

To start creating a project plan the goals and objectives of the project should be decided on. This will give the project a direction in which to follow. How this is to be accomplished will in part be determined by the methodology that is used. This will be the basis for the approach taken during the course of the project.

Once you know what you are going to create, your project will need financial backing. These backers will be the shareholders of the project. They will be the ones to give the final approval of the project plan so it can proceed to the execution stage.

The next stage in creating a project plan is to set forth organizing what will be needed during the project for it to meets its goals. This will include the necessary raw materials to assemble the deliverable. Also included in this will be the auxiliary resources that include the manpower and how they will be utilized along with the equipment that will be necessary in the project. With this documented the plan will start to take shape.

The schedules will need to be created so the critical path can be identified. This will also help a manager to foresee any possible bottlenecks that could be encountered along the path of the projects execution. The QC and QA sections of the plan need to be finalized. It is a necessary task to determine how the deliverable will be tested to make sure it will meet the expectations and needs of the shareholders and the customers that will be using it.

All of these things are necessary when creating a project plan. It may sound complicated and at time overbearing, but it is achievable. The key is to take one step at a time until it is completed then review it to catch any mistakes that might be present.
